I have never kept one but from most of what I read they can be difficult to keep.

We have had one for a little over a month(about 4 in.), and it has been kind of come and go. one day it will eat every thing that is put in front of it, some days it wont even pick at seaweed selects(but it will go hang out near the clip, like it wants to eat). It does seem to be a trooper, though. been in the 75 gal. with a med. PB tang, flame angel, lawnmower blenny, false percula, and a dottyback(and lots of rockwork and dead coral to hide in). The tank has been at 1.009 SG for a week and a half now(tang has ick that keeps coming back) and that doesn't seem to bother them much. Every thing I have read says the majestics are a 4 on a scale of 1-5. 1 being easiest, 5 being most difficult. I don't think I would recommend it to anyone with limited saltwater exp. I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for this one. I'll let you know how it goes, but I personally won't call it a success unless it lives at least a year. Sure hope it does, it's a beautiful fish. If I had done my home work in the first place, I probably wouldn't have purchased it. Sorry to sound negative, but I have learned the HARD way that this BB is generally right about pretty much everything, and had I just listened in the first place, the last couple of months wouldn't have been so much work, and stress(for us and the fish). Finally the tank is starting to grow green algae, and is getting stable enough to keep these fish happy.

If I were you, I would buy an baby one, one that hasn't changed color yet. You probably won't be able to get this at the pet store, but you can get them on-line, even though you will pay alot for shipping, I think getting the juv. would be better than the adult. The reason is because the juv. are more ready to adjust to aquarium life, and prepared foods. If you get an adult they often times don't want to eat. The young ones will take what they can get, and if kept right should live a long time and then you can see them go through their color change. This is just based on what I have read ect, it is also recommened that your tank has been set up for more than six months and you also have a protein skimmer, because they need really good water quality. I have also been researching this fish, because someday I hope to have one, and I will definitley get a juv. They are also one of the smaller full sized angels, but when full sized probably need a 100 gal tank or larger.

I have a Majestic bought as a juvenile 4 years ago in my 135 along with a number of fish including a Blue Faced Angel, Rusty Angel, and Half-Black Angel (the last 2 being dwarfs). The Majestic has been a fine fish and eats everything I put in the tank. Its coloration is like the Moon great and it is a good neighbor to its tankmates. I do agree staring with a Juv (in my opinion with any fish) is the best way to go they are more forgiving of mistakes many times that a adult would not be.
