making a protein skimmer fit?????

I switched my reef tank to my plex tank and the protein skimmer won't fit. how can I cut the plex without the dust falling in the tank. This is so frustrating. I am using an emperor 28 filtration and 2 75 powerheads and, 65wt smartlite. I have 2 mushroom rocks, devils hand, button polyps, toadstool. I know they need the skimmer so how can I make it fit? Help please!!!!

Are you drilling holes or actually cutting slots or something? If your drilling just use masking tape on both sides. If your cutting you might be able to build out a cup like catcher with masking tape.

We have to cut. The hole in the back that was cut for the filtration isn't wide enough by about 3 inches. I tried everything. Should I just syphen off some of the water? What effect can plex dust cause? I wish I had planned the switch a little better, but since I switched the lionfish to a bigger tank to be replacing the small reef spot in the house, I didn't have time. I do have the prizm and I am told they don't make a skimmer that is smaller or more compact. Bummer!
