Well after many months of putting it off and reading and reading and reading and reading I am finally going to take the plung and switch from the nasty CC to Live sand. As you can see in the pic I got my lil helper all ready. Wish me luck and I'll post when I'm done. :happyfish

Hey ya let me know how it goes and everything you do. I also have the crushed coral and have debated to switch to sand but it just seems like it could be possibly a huge project that I just dont want to take on. Maybe when I move I'll think about doing it then. But keep us posted when you get done.

no offense but why would you ever put crushed coral in there? i think thats crazy! It doesnt stay very clean and live sand has good bacteria living in it when you put it in your tank.

Hey salty and to anyone who is new. I was steared that by my LFS. Didn't know any better untill I found this site.
But after a few mistakes and a lot of reading over others shoulders, I am now MAKING THE SWITCH
. Halfway there now will finish tonight and post pics tomarrow after The Seahawks game. Go Hawks and may your fish poop in crystal clear water.

It's looking good!!!

I have CC in my 46 bow front. It's doing fine for now. It's been in there since I got the tank from the previous owner. Won't do any changes until I get a new 125+ gallon tank in the spring. When I move everyone from my 55 to the new tank, that's when I'll put the ones from the bow front over and change out the cc to live sand in the bow front. My 55 has live sand so it's all good there. The thing I'm wondering about is will the tank cycle again after the switch??

What size tank do you have? Looks to me like a 125 or bigger. Congrats on the switch, I am sure you will be happy in the long run. 6 hours huh? Makes me feel not so bad because I moved my 125 with a 60 gallon sump and it took me a little longer than that.

I started wit CC and made the switch too i was lucky to catch it quick before i got too much stuff in it and all i did was move my LR to one side and the CC to the other then the next day the fishes and inverts had found new hiding places and i used my fish net to scoop the CC out and then put the LS in and i was done looks like yours was a little more of an undertaking huh? well glad to see your a member of the LS'ers
BTW nice F'in tank what size is that thing i'm debating an upgrade to 125 or more
i'm only in a 75 now.

The tank is 135 gals. Its all clear today so I am going to test the water and then put the fish back in. If any one does this make sure you have 2 people and lots of time and towels. Also nose plugs wouldn't hurt as when i got to the bottom and started taking out the CC it was pretty nasty smelling and looking.
Smelled so bad it brought tears to my little buddys eyes and he got on his bike and said " I'm outta here
"

What a cute boy!!!
Now, who do you have hanging up above the tanks? I can't really tell who it is but I'm interested in that too!
Judging by what I can see of the hair, it looks like someone from the 80's to me, but can't really tell.
I have a wall of shame in our house because my husband's business we sold a few years ago put us in front of a lot of our favorite bands and solo acts.

Sorry, I'm not selling any of my stuff hanging on the wall of shame and none of Bon Jovi.
You'll know you took the back seat when she hangs Jon on the ceiling. As a joke I hung one of my Billy Squier pics on the ceiling... I never heard the end of it. His poor ego couldn't handle knowing he could easily be replaced by Billy.

Got the fish in today. Had a little amonia spike but its gone now. Although it appears I'm getting some diatoms. I had to put in 10 gallons of bottled water so I hope that is all it is. Anyways heres some pics. Whaddya think
