this was just touched on a few weeks ago in this thread

I am going to attempt to make my own soon. The method that I am going to use is aragonite with crushed shell and coral mixed with portland type II cement. Nobody here has posted pics of rocks that they have made, so I assume nobody has made it yet. I just want to make it for the experience and I think it would be cool to have my own shapes in the tank. The only debate that I have heard is curing time. For the best info I would go to garf.org.

Cool thanks. Im thinking of trying it too. My lfs sells some kind of pourous rock, looks like old sponge rock or something. Im wondering if that would work. Anyway, thanks and good luck.

My LFS sells something called Texas holey rock. It’s white when it is dry, turns gray when wet and has lots of holes and nooks and crannies. I bought some the other day and my fish love it. I dont know if it is sold everywhere but it might work for you. :)

There are some amazing pieces of Texas holey rock on e*bay. I know that it is limestone. There are some dorks on the board that are pro/con about it. But I think it is insanely cool.
