I've had this Mandarian Dragon for two years and last night he jumped the tank. I found him on the floor this morning. He was my favorite fish!
WHY GOD! WHY?????

Has anyone else lost a MD do to the "Great-Leap-of-Death"?
I'm gonna check my parameters tonight and see if they are off. But in the meantime, please chime in.

not for nothing, but..........dont most people have covers on their tanks, i know i do......i am not being sarcastic, really, shouldn't you have a cover on your tank?

90% people dont use covers, traps heat and especially if you are using a metal halide having a cover could cook the tank.

I lost a B/G Chromis a few days back because he jumped out of a 10g with no cover. Woke up one morning and he was gone, found him on the floor. Installing cover as we speak!
But they are jittery and darty and fast moving, I should have known better. My MD is in my 125g and she is s---l---o---w moving and never ventures more than half-way up the tank! The IS a cover on that one but I can't imagine her ever 'jumping' out!

They are s l o w, and I've never seen her move more than 4 inches at a time.
I saw a setup the other day where a guy wrapped gutter mesh around the top of the tank, making the sides about 6" higher as an alternative to covering the tank. I'm thinking of doing that to prevent my turbo snails from doing the same thing the Mandarian Dragon.

wow that really sux. i dont use cover either. luckily no fish has yet to jump. it could be water chemistry or a fish scaring the heck out of it.
