does he have a lot of rock to hide in? i mean its risky due to the fact the lion will eat anything that he can fit in his mouth. Also, since you thought about putting a mandarin in your tank, i am assuming you have a lot of copepods in there. JMO, i wouldn't put the mandarin with the lionfish..its too risky.

i have got lots of pods. he has alot but probly not as many as i do. there are lots of places for him to hide. but i dont hink i would wnat to run that risk if it was my tank. i just wanted to see if someone had something that i could sonvince him on y it was a bad reason to do so.

do you know if he has a dwarf zebra or a fuzzy dwarf lionfish? maybe it will not be as risky..I have a buddy who has firefish with his dwarfs, and surprisingly they have been together for almost a year.. but if it was me, i wouldnt risk it. the lion would eventually would have a expensive and exotic meal.

So he's a baby volitan? Fuzzies even get to 5-6"
My volitan would eat that mandarin in a heartbeat. Whereever he saw it last before it hid... that's he they would sit and wait. They are hunters and ambush predators.... make no mistake, if they want to eat the mandarin, they will.
