Mandarin losing color

Okay, this was really weird but last night my Mandarin was all flared up and lost all of his color except on the outer edge of his fins and he still had a little blue and orange on his cheeks. Does anyone have any ideas of what he was doing? He usually comes up to the glass where I am and flutters at me but I have never seen him lose his color. He did it for about a half an hour and seems fine this morning......

first of all, how old is your tank? how many lbs of lr? and what are your water levels? this info will help us figure out what is wrong.

My tanks is about a 1 1/2 yrs old. I have 45 lbs of lr and my water levels are fine. He is just fine today so I don't know if he saw his reflection and was either mating or fighting, but I didn't think they lost their color. I have had him for about 6 months and also have a scooter that I have had for about 8 months. They eat frozen brine, cyclops and of course pods.

was he sleeping?
Mandarins look really pale when they are sleeping.
Then maybe he got woken up and flared up cause he was scared?
i dunno any other reason he would look that way

No he wasn't sleeping. It was right before feeding time and he continued through feeding and well after.....

it was most likely just stress for some reason. It is completely possible and likely that he was pi
ed off at his reflection.
