Mandarin

I bought a mandarin dragonet yesterday, and I let him in the tank when the lights were off. I saw him go into a little nook in the rock and pick at the pods a bit. Today, I looked everywhere for him, but I couldn't find him at all. Do they like to hide for a while after arrival? Are they more active at night?

It is probably exploring the innermost parts of your rockwork looking for/eating pods. Keep looking it will pop out.

I just saw him stick his head out of a tiny crevice and picked at the rock a bit, but when I went to get a closer look, it darted back it. Guess it's just getting used to its surroundings. =D Thanks!

yeah give it time. mine was very shy for a couple weeks actually. now he hand feeds from me and is the most outgoing fish that I have except for my clowns.

good. he's been extremely shy, but it's only been about 3 days. I hope mine gets to be like your mandarin! it's beautiful.

Thanks!! I think mine is more outgoing because he is handfed. He really doesn't have anything on the rocks to pick at because he cleaned out the pods after the first month. I do buy some from time to time but he completely weaned onto frozen foods now.
