I am trying to trap a Mantis Shrimp and he has gotting the bait out of the trap now three times without setting off the trap. I even watched him go into the trap when the lights are on and look at the shrimp and left. 30 minutes later, the bait was gone. What do I do now, I know he is going in there. Should I tie the bait to the levor that trips the trap or what?
Thanks,
Greg

Do a search on mantis shrimp...there are instructions for building a trap out of a soda bottle that seems fool proof. If you want to sell him visit the mantis shrimp site at <a href="http://www.reefcentral.com" target="_blank">www.reefcentral.com</a>
There are folks on there looking for these pests.
Maybe they could tell you about trapping him.

Is there any way you can attach a string to the door and allow the door to shut upon releasing the string once the guy is in. I had to build a trap using this method to remove fish before. I added extra weight to the door to make sure it closed quickly by glueing plexiglass to the bottom and it worked. Sell him to your lfs or online.

I finally caught the Mantis Shrimp with a Mantis Shrimp Trap and bait. I watched him and when he went into the trap, I used a coat hanger and hit the trap and the door closed shut. I finally got rid of that little devil.
I must say, these little critters are very good hunters and their movements thru the water are second to none. I do have respect for them, but not in my reef tank.
Thanks,
greg
