Larger specimens of the Peacock Mantis 5 inches and up have the striking force of a 22 caliber bullet. There have been instances of them breaking glass.

Hey everybody,
I bought a bunch of live rock about six weeks ago. It is ultra premium stuff with lots of live critters and stuff on it. However, I was watching my tank today and found an undesirable. It is a mantis - about 2.5" long. Anyone have ideas or experience catching one?
I ordered a crab trap the the other day. I should get it this week sometime.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance!!
I have also posted this in the aggressive fish section.

As for getting rid of the mantis you are probly going to have to take your tank apart. Find the rock it is hidding in and pull that rock out place it in a tupperwear container and put it in the dark. with a small flash light check to see if the shrimp has come out of the rock when he does pull the rock before he gets back into it. Put some frozen krill or some other type of bait at the other end of the tupperwear. Then find some one that wants it

They make shrimp traps. You place a piece of food in the back of it and the shrimp goes in and once eats the food the door shuts behind him. Of course this takes great patience. You'll be lucky if you catch him before you catch 20 crabs and whatever else you have in your tank. Maybe the best idea is to find the rock he hides in and remove it from your tank. Rinse it in freshwater until he comes out.
