ok i have been reading alot on them.....what can i do to get rid of them. What fish or invert can i purchase to prey on them.......and really how bad are they for your tank......i have never had one before and im about to set up another tank with LR and i heard that in sneak into your tank.....so if anyone can tell me how bad they are and what do they do to a fish system and what can i buy to prey on them

I dont think anything you can get in normal size tank would prey on them. Your only real option is to try to catch them with some sort of a trap.

Octopus is about the only thing that comes to my mind as a natural predator. However, adding an octopus isn't really a smart solution, especially since it would terrorize your tank more than any mantis could. There are many ways to get rid of mantis. Do a search to that effect and you'll get a lot of ideas.

You could catch the mantis, get an ID on it, and keep it in a smaller tank. I'm looking for a mantis right now for my 6g. I doubt you could send him to me but if you can I'm interested.
There are some ways to catch mantis' using traps. I would reccomend traps over trying to kill it.Go to Lurker's Guide. They should have some ways.

I believe we have two mantis in a 20 gallon tank that my husband is wanting to tear down. If so, I'd be happy to send you one. Or both. He asked the lfs today if they wanted the crabs back, and if they'd take the mantis. Of course, she said no on the mantis! But they are cool to watch. We have successfully shipped a mantis to Georgia before, so I'm sure it'd be fine in FL. I'll post and let you know tomorrow.
