Many questions on my sump/fuge setup

I hope I am posting this in the right section. Please move it if is in the wrong area.
Today I picked up this sump/fuge setup. I was going to build my own but my LFS let me have it at cost since I was buying a bunch of other stuff.

There were no instructions included so I just took a shot at putting it together. In the next pic you can see that I have the flex tubing going into to PVC elbow. Then I have that grey threaded coupling screwed on from underneath. I left the rubber washer beneath the acrylic. Should this be above the acrylic? Also it came with a short length of thin-wall PVC and I placed it in the female side of the grey connector. Does this seem right?

I am guessing that these filter bags snap into the two circular openings on the drain side of the sump. How often should these be replaced? I am guessing it depends on how much 'crud' it collects. Also do you just rinse these out or get new ones each time?

Also it came with this short length of airline tubing. Is this to prime the U tube in the overflow box?

so you can remove this block off plate. Is this so you can clean the blue filter media? I am guessing the blue foam acts as some kind of bubble trap?

The pump chamber measures 9.5"L x 7.5"W x 14"H. Can someone recommend a protein skimmer that will fit in there? I also have to leave enough room for my return pump (Mag 5). I am new to skimmers so maybe this is not the right area of the sump to place one? I was looking at the needle wheel types.
Also it came with a length of clear 1/2" vinyl for the return line. I went out and got some 1/2" PVC and various fittings so I can place a ball valve off of a 'T' near the return pump in case I need to adjust the flow.

can be removed with the small piece of plastic and either removed or put on the other side if you skimmer produces to many bubbles. the last section is where i have my return pump. the skimmer i use is the super skimmer fits perfict all i had to do was put longer tube on pump

Wouldn't bleach be bad for fish and other living things? Or do you rinse it extremely well after bleaching?

bleach i would think is really bad. i would use white vinager. that is the only cleaning agent i let get anywhere near my fish tank. anything else i think might kill fish.
