about a week ago I noticed that my fish had little white spots on them. Autimaticaly I assumed it was ich, until I noticed that my tang had like a pepper dusting on him. I then realized that it wasen't ich but oodinia (marine velvet). seeing as my tank is a reef tank, there was no way I could put a copper sulution in my tank, so I purchased a product called rally, made by ruby reef. the stuff has been in my tank for 3 days now, when i first but it in my tank it turned a flouresent green, my tank has stayed like that since. has anyone used this product or has got their fish thorough marine velvet that can tell me what I can expect. my tomato clown is actually looking worse..... also can someone tell me what it is that creates this stuff, so I know how to avoid it next time.

First, what type of tang was it? Yellow? I assume when you say pepper like dusting the specs appeared black. If that is the case it was not velevt but black ich which really is not ich at all but a type of easily cured parasitic worm. If it is not black and is indeed velvet you had better act quickly with quarantine, the fact is there is no effective reef safe treatment out there for ick or velvet. To get the meds out of your main tank put a Poly-Filter or two in yopur sump and some carbon.
