yeah it's called cyano, you need plenty of flow. (15x-26x turnover)and syphon out some of the maroon algea when doing waterchanges.

cyanobacteria lives in everyones tank . when it starts to accumulate on the sand bed it often means u have to many nutrients in your tank , first thing u want to do is check your nitrate and phosphate levels and then reduce them by doing rutiene water changes about 10 percent a week. syphon the cyano whyll doing your water changes . second cut down the amount u feed your fish , i feed mine every other day.third cut your lighting in half for about a week or so.and as mentioned add a powerhead for more flow
good luck

Thanks. I have 2 powerheads for flow. Got plenty of that. I feed them every other day. Always weekly water changes. All levels good. Maybe it is my lighting, I will cut it. Thanks for all your help!
This stuff isn't toxic is it?

No is not toxic is just a mixture of algea & bacteria.
Two powerheads could be enuf it all depends on gph rating of each VS. Tank size.
