maroon/anemone

Well the 3 years into this hobby have sure been interesting. From starting out with a 10 gal then going up to a 25 gal I am now back with my 10 gal as of last night and 6 hrs of moving later.
Why you ask??? It all boils down to this $$$$$$$. I placed my other three fish at the LFS and kept my one and only fish, my buddy the maroon clown. I could not part with this fish as it was a special order when I first bought it.
I love this fish and could not part with it. It is the "only" fish in this 10 gal with a coral banded shrimp and a very large blue leg hermit crab.
Maintaining the two different tanks really was no difference and both did very well for me. The mushrooms grew faster in my 10 due to the lights and not so much in the 25 as I did not have strong enough lights. So they are quite happy not to have more light again.
With this 10 gal tank I have at the moment 30 watts of full spectrum lighting at 10,000k total. I am going to change them soon to the: 40 watts of 50/50 20,000k, would this be better??
I also would like to know after seeing so many people with 10 or 12 gal tanks placing anemone's for their clowns. Is there an anemone I can give my clown that would do well in a 10 gal??
I know alot of them get huge but what about a bubble anemone??

Well if you want an anemone I would recommend getting at leat 1 65 watt PC. regular flourecnts are not strong enough. Or you could get a T-5 HO. ALso you need to concider that BTA will get 10-12 inches. You will be limited as to what else you can place in the tank. BTA and maroons do host together. Check out ****************** They have good prices on lights. Good luck.
Please folks remember to not post competitor links

So far so good. Everything is doing just fine. I know that I am very limited as to what I can keep in there but I am willing to just have my happy Maroon and her Anemone in the tank.
One thing I am concerned about though, she will not leave that anemone alone. Will she harm it at all???
It does not look like it is in trouble in fact it looks like it is quite happy.
I have noticed that it will totally deflate and go back into the crevice then come back out. What is is doing???
And lastley, I have offered my clown the same foods that I use to feed it. She does not seem to be interested in anything but that dam anemone. Should I be concerend??

i have a maroon and a condi ( fully enflated 7inches in diameter ) in my 12g nano he took it in 10 mins. all he does is lay in it lol. its normal dont worry. as far as eating try the frozen prime reef cubes and add xtreme garlic (helps w immunity and eating). he will feed the anemone first ( at least mine does) then he will eat some pieces either on the anemone or thats floating around. i use flakes everyday which he does eat, and once a week i use prime reef (for the condi) i also have 5 hermits/6 snails and a coral banded shrimp.
hope that helps a little

sorry as for as the deflating...they do that several times a week its normal, they are expelling waste, and may remain small for couple hrs. only worry if it starts deteriorating ( which it doesnt sound like its doing so no worries )

Thanks for your reply. It is so neat to watch this crazy clown and the anemone but all is doing just great. Very protective towards the new home I might add though, if you get close to the glass she will charge you and if the coral banded shrimp gets to close the same thing but has never hurt the shrimp.
I took some pics the other day and will post them, the clown is bigger than the anemone but I think the anemone has either grown or expanded out a bit since I got it which is only a week.
Do you think you could post a picture of yours so I can see it??

That is what I am afraid of. This clown is crazy and just loves its anemone. What would I notice if this is happening??

Thanks for the info. This one seems to be opening wider, so hopefully this is a good thing......

Say is it alright to feed this anemone frozen brineshrimp, mysis shrimp and krill??

Sure, I don't target feed mine at all. Just bits that float into it. It's high on the rocks under a ton of light, though.
Purely antedotal, but my anemone seemed to grow well when my clown hosted it. I'm curious if there is some kind of communication between the two.

I am having some conerns now about this BTA, it seems to be coming out of the rock a little bit. It is not completley flat like it was when I first brought it home. Would this be due to the maroon?? Or is it on the move??
I have 5 pics posted, the blurry one all by itself was just taken 5 min ago. Please tell me if it looks alright or is there something wrong.
Also this clown never leaves it unless it retracts into the rock.

it looks healthy from the pictures. did u change to stronger lighting yet? that may be why he's so small. or the clown is aggitating it. im not really sure. sorry your having trouble

is it okay to keep an anemone this small and this big together... i heard the anemone should be about 5X bigger than the clown... not sure this is true though...

Well everything is going really well, I have not changed the lights they are the same and it is very bright in there. The green is really showing now on the anemone. It has not moved at all but has grown wider. Must be my feedings.......

The clown is now leaving it alone a bit more and swiming around the tank. She sure protects it, if my coral banded shrimp lurks around she puts the run on the shrimp. When I feed it she attacks the turkey baster, quite funny.
I would have like to get a bit bigger one but man are they ever $$$$ here. I got such a good deal on this one as the LFS got some small ones instead of the larger ones. I could not pass this deal up. So fingers crossed all will be just fine, so far everything looks just great.
I would like to put the 50/50's on for the color point of view but for now the full spectrum ones are doing the job. Everything in time......

Must be a happy camper, everything is still going very well. It has not moved, the tips are getting nice and green. I feed it twice a week. But one thing I did notice is that it seems to appear there are some more smaller tips coming out closer to the center of the anemone by the mouth.
Is it growing buy sending these up??

Hi, no I don't think they were they before. I think they are just new as they are quite short. Anyhow all seems to be well, I hope that it grows and does well for me and my clown. So far so good.
