Maroon Clown digging in the sand

Our yellow striped maroon clown is digging holes in the sand under some rock. Is this something they do commonly? Could there be a reason for it? Is it something we should be concerned about?
The other question is, we have read that maroon's are aggressive...well, we also found that out the hard way. The question is what else can go in with them? We have lr, one fuzzy dwarf lionfish, one yellow striped maroon, and some red mushroom coral. The tank is 55g. We have had it set up for about 2-2 1/2 months.

Totally normal for them. I use to have one myself and she did this all the time. I had a much smaller tank though so it caused some problems for me. But you should be just fine.
Yes they can be aggressive, your tank of 55 gal with the dwarf lionfish is all I would put in there right now unless there is a smaller fish that would be able to survive the lion and the clown. Maybe someone more experienced can chime in here on this one.
I would add some colorful corals instead to your tank if all you have is some mushrooms. I know exactly what you are going through, you are looking for that punch of color and the safest way to do this would be with some easy corals. Just what I would do has I have kept both these fish and they really do need the room.

I think we are going to stick with the fish we have right now. Apparently we have an AIP outbreak. After we get that taken care of, we are going to look into some more corals. Anyone suggest anything?

Well you have already posted you have a 55 gal tank, 2 1/2 months old but what about your lighting system, this will help with some recommendations from others.
