Maroon Clown, Male or Female?

Here you go:
Nature allows clownfishes to select their gender. Within a social setting, the most dominant clownfish will develop into a female, the next most dominant one besomes a male, and any additional clownfish will remain sexually immature juveniles. Lacking the the specific sensory stimuli (introducing another clownfish) adolescent clownfishes remain small and reasonably submissive. Like Peter Pan, they will never grow up. Once a clownfish becomes a female, she can never become a male. But a male, can become female if the dominant female of the clan dies.
From Joyce Wilkerson's book Clownfish: A Guide to Their Captive Care, Breeding & Natural History
Pretty cool, huh?
