Maroon Clown sick.

Order of events:
Purchased an Anemone on Mother's Day.
He died about two weeks ago. Not sure why. He never found a comfortable place in the tank and he never planted his foot in the substrate or LR.
He layed on his side most all the time and then little by little his insides started to seep out.
end result he started the meltdown process leading to his death.
I immediately did water changes.... new carbon and checked the water closely.
Ok enough about my Anemone:
At the same time I purchased my Anemone.... I purchased a Purple Leather. This leather grew from a half dollar size (there were two on one stick) to 4 times its size.
Then it shrunk down to the half dollar size again... which is the size of it now.
At night It would send out his sweeper tenicals and they moved all over the tank.
Could this have stung my Anemone killing him?
Now, my Clown..... A Maroon and yellow strip.... was purchased
weeks later...
I watched this particular Clown for 6 months at the fish store. It ate, was healthy in all appearances.....
He loved my Anemone.. even sleep in his tenicles.
Now, I am finding black patches or spots on the top of his head, maybe some on his sides I can not quite tell.
His bright yellow is fadeing..
I need to know what this may be so I can help him.
Could this Leather be stinging him too?
I am going to put pictures up. They are the best I can get.. but see if anyone can identify
what I see. Look on the top of his head... if you can not see spots maybe you can see the dark and that is where the spots are.....maybe you would call them patches I am not sure
but they are underneath.
I sorry I am rambling... I just got over a sick Anemone and now my favorite Clown seems sick.
Oh yes, I have noticed him swimming funny. He swims very fast up to the top of the tank and down to the bottom again.
He pretty much stays in one corner doing that over and over.
But when I turn the lights off he swims around.. Weird!
Ok, let me try the pics.. and I will get the water specs too.

This is the Purple Leather I mentioned above.
I would appreciate any advice on this post.

Was that leather in the rocks? They really should be high and attached to rocks. Is the clown bothering it? Trying to host?
Check out the Diseased Fish thread and the pictures of clowns with hypermelaninization. That is your clown's problem.

Beth,
It was high in the rocks.. and got knocked off......
It is attached to a stick... should I gently move it back up on top of the rock?
Thanks.... I will read the thread you suggested......
BTW- Do Leathers sting with their sweeping tenicals? ie like could he have stung my
anomenoe and killed him or stung my Clown.
You may have answered this already... I am off to read now. :)

No, the leather would not have bothered the anemone. The anemone always has the advantage, because it can move. What is your lighting? What kind of anemone?
Move the leather back up and gently wedge it into some rocks to see if it will take hold. If the clown is bugging the leather, then that will be another story and could acct for its current state.

I will move the Leather... back up on a rock....
But, you probably did not get in on the sad story of the demise of my Anemone.
I brought him home from the fish store on Mothers Day. He was a LTA. Beautiful!
Sweeping tenicals... good color...his foot was nice and red... appeared to be healthy as
could be.
But, he never took hold...ie never planted his foot in a rock or LS or anything.
he moved all over the tank and finally wedged himself... on his side against a rock.
The Maroon Clown..we have been discussing.... followed him all over the tank.
He loved the Anemone.. slept in his tenacles....
In fact, I brought the Clown home from the Fish store after watching him go into every Anemone they put in their tank......
He was aggressive with the Anemone.. ie did not leave his side or tenicles except to run off another clown I had.. I had to get rid of it so this Maroon did not kill it.
I watched my beloved Anemone go from great looking to pittyful.
I never had appearant problems with my water..... I did get new lightening for him
in hopes that would help him thrive....
But, he got a sore on his foot.. and one thing lead to another leading to a full meltdown of the Anemone.
The Lether was in the tank during all this time too.
The Anemone did walk all over the Leather trying to find his spot...
Like I said the Leather was small and within 4 weeks grew about 4 times the size as when I brought him home. I have not seen his brown tenicals that I saw daily... only the sweeping teanicles at night.. they do still come out and sweep the tank.
If the Maroon has been stung by the Leather... did you say it would kill him?
Should I move the Leather up high.. on the rock or possibly take him out of the tank
all together.
I dont want to cause stress on my maroon.. he is BEAUTIFUL.

That clownfish is not going to be killed by the leather. Those spots are just a reaction that some clowns have to the stinging cells of anemones/corals. Don't worry about it. They are like sunspots that people get.
I didn't see where you gave us info regarding the lighting you have? What kind of anemone was it?
