anyone one here have trouble with an aggressive coral beauty angel? he is stinkin mean. he nips at the chromis, and especially the maroon clown. i just put a pacific blue tang in and he is flaring and whacking her with his mean fins. he has a set path that he cruises and along the way he hits anyone in his path. anyone else have a mean CBA in their tank? :help:

Yes they can be mean but then they chill out for awhile. I think they like to show who is boss from time to time. Try to set up a little rock cave section for him and he will be nicer. They are territorial and will be mean if their space is invaded or if they are hungry. You could try feeding the coral beauty first off in a corner and feed the others away to see if that works. I have a CB Angel and a maroon clown in my 60. The CBA doesn't bug anyone. It's very peaceful and minds its own business always grazing on rocks.

I've had my CB angel almost since the beginning...last added to my tank. She and my 2 false percs hang out like a little street gang, and get along absolutely GREAT!! Never a problem with her.
How did you add your stock? Could it be that your angel was added too early??
Hope things work out.

sooooo.... 24hrs later..... lana, the pacific blue woke up this morning when the lights came on and kicked the *()& out of gunther the CBA. followed him on his war path and smacked him a couple of times with her tail.... he is now very calm and orderly!!!!! he did however eat a large part of moron the maroon's top fin and he now looks like a fire fish with the fin sticking straight up..... hmmmmmm..... my maroon is tank raised, could this be why he is so passive? he likes to hang with the chromis and occasionally takes out his aggressions there....maroon was the first in the tank (after i removed all 60lbs of live rock and got rid of 2yellow tail damsel fish from hell and 1 even worse striped damsel), then chromis, then
CBA, then pacific blue tang.... (i am planning a much bigger tank set up in approx 1 year 6mos when we move).
i have a 54 gal bowfront... someone asked me that...
60lbs live rock/60lbs sand
eheim 2 and protein skimmer
levels all within normal limits
CBA
maroon
pacific blue tang
4 green chromis
new knobby star
brittle star
cleaner shrimp
CBS
10 snails
20 hermits
thanks for all of the replies!!!!!

How much/often do you feed? My first fish was a coral beauty and he never attacked anything in my 30 gallon, I just had to feed more to satisfy its appetite and make sure there was enough left over for the rest of the tank. How is your tank as far as small invertebrate life? Coral beauty angels are one of the easiest to feed but they still do really well from a healthy source of copepods and such. There's always the chance he's just a bad seed, but try an extra feeding or two with some flake food, nori sheets or ghost shrimp.
