I had a mated pair of maroons for about five years. Mine were quite agressive and tried to bite me whenever I was cleaning the tank. I have a pair of tomatos now. They seem to be less agressive. I think that firefish may not do well with maroons, but should be fine with tomatos. I kept a blue damsel and a pseudochromis with my maroons. The damsel was picked on a little, but the pseudo did very well. Also, bangaii cardinals do not survive well in captivity. If you can find tank raised ones, they will do much better. In additon to carrying some kind of parasite, the wild ones do generally eat flank and I can be picky with frozen. Tank raised are hard to come by, but you can find them on the net. I would also avoid the wild population because it is becoming quickly depleted. Clowns are great b/c you can get them tank raised.
