Can any other clowns be kept with maroons? If I wanted to have more than one clownfish, which type wouold be my best bet? I know that maroons cannot be kept with other maroons, but can the tolerate other types?
Thanks,

From what i have been told you cannot keep any other type of clowns with maroons, except other maroons. Even that is hard to do if one is really established in the tank. maybe a tomato or a Clarki (larger clowns) would work, but that is completly my opinion. so take it for what it is worth. good luck.

Maybe Im just lucky, but when I started my fish buying process, I didnt know you werent supposed to mix clowns. I have 1 percula, 1 large maroon, 1 clarki, and 1 tomato. They have been together for nearly 8 months with no problems at all. Of course, they are in 150 gal, so that may have made a difference. :D

Size of tank can help but in regards to Novices post I must gain tell a story from my experience. When I started my 135 4 years ago I added a pecula and a maroon clown with the Perc being 3 times the maroons size. For the first couple of years I would find the maroon nipped up pretty good now and then and knew it was the perc doing it, but I was stubborn and felt time would work it out. As the maroon grew it seemed to work until one day I came home to find the perc almost dead from being chewed on by the maroon which was now close to the percs size (it died the next day). Since then the Maroon has grown quite large and is the terror of the tank. So in the end it got its revenge for being picked on for so long.
