Maroon's changing sex & color

OK, I have a large (4in+) Maroon in my 240 who is super dark maroon. I assume she is a female.
I also have a newly aquired large (same size) Maroon in my 75g who is bright red.
I have read when they are left alone they switch to female and also turn darker. I plan (in the future) to move my super red down to the other tank to try and mix the clowns. I assume the longer I leave her alone the more she will switch to a female. Not sure if they can switch back, anyone?
Also, I have red that the bright one's are males, if he switches will his color change? Or is this myth...?
Just trying to decide how long I have before I try to mix them. If the color won't change I'd prefer to keep the bright one in the 75g for some time. But if his colors will change soon I will move him ASAP.
Thanks.

Since they are the same size I would not put them together for two main reasons . First , they will fight till one dies . If you want to introduce another maroon it needs to be smaller . Second , the other one is more likely a female as males don`t get that big . The new one was most likely alone and turned into a female already . Also introducing maroons can be hectic as they are mean and VERY territorial . I would seperate them some how in the tank for a while and see how it goes .

Thats fine. But will the brighter one turn Dark Maroon as well or will he/she hold it's color if left alone?
I'm ok to keep seperate.

Not exactly sure , think it depends on the fish . Maybe some with more experience with Maroons will chime in . I have dealt with many other clowns and just getting a mated pair this week .
