Max Size of an Engineer Goby

How big do these things get? I seem to remember reading that they only get 6". That was what I based my stocking decision on anyway. Mine is now AT LEAST 8". I only have a 46 bow. I know he's fairly sedentary, but is my tank too small for his eventual length?
He was one of the first fish I got, but I'd rather him be happy than cramped. He has no tank mates at present. I gave everything else to friends before the move, but couldn't part with him. I figure if I have to let him go it would be better now while he's in temporary housing while the DT cycles.

mine right now is 10" if not longer
he is bigger and thicker than most snowflake eels ive seen in home aquariums

Is his size going to cause a problem with me only having a 46?
One other question I have...I would like to get a diamond goby. I see they should not be kept with other sleeper gobies. Is the engineer considered a sleeper goby (even though it's not really a goby)?

you don't have problems with it moving all that sand around? I used to have one but he was constantly clouding up the water...so he went back

Thats why when I designed my live rock stack, I did so with them in mind. Then I put my sand in. He only moves sand every now and again, because he has so many tunnels etc. under the rock. Mine is reaching 6" and is the diameter of a "sharpie marker". Mine does not bother any fish, although I only have a mandarin thats on his level.

PSUSOCR1-I take it by your name you play/played for Penn State. What years? I played against one of your guys in a summer league. The guy nut-meged me, pulled it back, waited for me to get up, and shot it past me (I was a keeper). I had never before, or since, been handled like that. One of the other guys on his team said he was an All-American from PSU and not to feel too bad (RIGHT!).
I wish I could remember his name, but at the time I couldn't help but hate for the mauling. Hope it wasn't you...if so no offense meant.
Still looking for an answer as to whether the engineer goby is considered a sleeper goby.

If you are referring to my tank, no I did not glue the rocks. They are VERY stable.
