I saw that thread a few weeks ago and wanted to try it. can you direct the flow and how loud is it?

the flow comes straight out. It is a wide stream and is very quiet. I just dont know if I need that much flow. I thonk they would be great for a tank full of sps corals, but they blow my shrooms and ployps all over the place.
But as far as money goes, you can build on new for about $35 and get 2400 gph. No way anyone should ever buy a tunze or seio with these things around.

How does the mod kit work? Does it make it wide flow? And also could it lower the power consumption of the maxi jets? Might be worth it. Can you let me know where you got the stuff to do it?

yeah the flow stream is a bout a foot wide. I held one almost on the bottom and the top of my water was rolling hard. I cant believe the flow on the se things. The power comsumption is only 12 watts for a mj 1200.
Like I said before for 2400gph for $40 bucks compared to tunze, for that much gph is like $165 ...

sign guy....search for mj mods on google. It will take you there and even has a video on how it is done.
I tried to cut my own shroud, but it looked like something from the teaxas chainsaw massacre so I broke down and oredered them. The first one took about 1/2 hour and the second one took about 10 minutes.
You will not believe the flow out of these things

I just put one on my 125 reef and its crazy. I never imagined Id have this much flow off an old power head and 25 dollar kit. My softies are getting whipped around pretty good, so I have to keep monitoring them and moving them to get it right. Softies like some flow right? or not?
My colt coral is the only one who really seems to not like the new flow. Guess I need some sps.

i ended up putting my down low on the sides and poiting them up towards the center. the water is rolling on top.
I don't think it matters where you put , you are gonna have flow everywhere...LOL

I done one of these about 2 weeks ago and the flow is unreal. I have a 55 gal and it is almost too much flow. I am going to look for a used MJ900 or something smaller to attach it to. My next one I will use a different pitch on the prop and not blow my sand everywhere. Well worth the money. http://www.mjmods.com/ This is the link with video!

Did you measure it with a watt meter? Or is this second hand info?
