maxi-jet powerhead question?

ok.. i just installed my first maxi-jet 900... I used the prefilter
grid instead of the undergravel filter adapter. I need to know if
one is preferred over the other for maximun watr pressure and am i supposed to see the water pressure gushing out of the outlet.
I just hope its doing its job with water pressure.

Both are fine. Just clean them from time to time, they get clogged.
