Sep,
Do you have them facing each other? I had a cyano problem which I treated with red slime remover. Product worked great but I feel the cyano was caused by improper flow. So I now have one on the rear/side facing left and one on the front/side facing right. They are MJ 900's. Sorry, I am not trying to hijack this thread

Yes, mine face each other. The 1200 is up higher than the 900 and they are both angled around the rocks. The 1200 blows behind them and around and the 900 blows in front of them.

mj1200's are great for the price you pay for them.. keep them maintained and they will be just fine.. you will notice that a day or two after cleaning them that they will have less flow.. its rather easy for gunk to build up in around the impeller magnet.. but for the most part you can get a mj1200 for around or less then $20 brand new online with shipping included..

Alien, that a tricky question. The answer is based on your aquascaping. You want to make sure you have no dead zones.
Do you have pictures of your tank/scaping?

my old digital camera doesn't work anymore....kind of a pain in the ass to take pics with the one thats built into my video camera so i rarely do so...my aqua scaping in the tank is pretty much real dead corals along with 6 medium fiji live rock pieces on a 1 1/2 inch think sandbed and they are spread out through the tank in the middle from left to right so that the fish have room around the back and front part of the tank

Well, a MJ is a great addition either way. I have two PH's in my 75 (tunze 6045's) One on the top left, one on the top right, both pointing forward and to the middle (at slightly different angles).
I have two returns, one is pointed down the back of the tank, the other to the front. That seems to work so far.
In your case, set up the mj on one end, your current one on the other and see how that works. If you see detritus or food accumulation in any areas, try moving them around. You can always mod the MJ to get more flow. Do you have a sump/return pump? worse case, you can get one more ph and you'll be good to go; see how this works for you first.

i don't suggest you use that red slime remover. all it is, is erythromycin...a common antibiotic. what do you think an antibiotic will do to your "good" bacteria, if it kills bad bacteria?

I've got 2 1200 MJ's in my 55 and just installed the blow mod to them both. It's called Hydor Flo Rotating Water Deflector

I have a small maxi-jet for mixing saltwater and I think it is pretty cheap. It gets the job done but I prefer the koralias I have in my display tank.

You can mod the MJ1200 to get 2000 GPH??
Yes. I modded mine and it creates quite the turbulence in my tank. It's so powerful that I rarely use it.
