I just noticed today that the 4th stage or the CFI/Silicamax stage only is filled about 1/4 of the way with water. I never really l noticed where the water level was in the past but I'm assuming it is supposed to fill from the bottom up and then flow out the product water hose. To me is seems like it is flowing directly out the hose. It does fill up when the float valve is all the way up but as soon as the water level drops in the holding tank and the float drops the level goes back to about 1/4 of the canaster. Is it working properly or not?

If it is your DI stage, it is working properly. They fill from the bottom of the membrane.

If they fill from the bottom up then wouldn't the canister be full when it is running? It has to fill up to go out the product hose at the top. I think i lost you or you lost me I'm not sure.

Q: I own a Maxxima. The first two canisters completely fill with water but the third one only has about an inch or so. Is the unit operating properly?
A: Yes, this is normal for the third canister not to fill with water. The R/O unit cannot produce enough pressure to force the air through the resin. The water instead will trickle down the side and up through the resin. Sometimes, air will gradually seep out with the water and the canister will slowly fill up. Any water coming out of the resin bed will be pure whether or not the canister is full or dry, due to the upflow of the resin cartridge.
