Barack calls him at 8:30 am and says we should release a joint statement about the bail out. Mccain returns the call 6 hr.s later and immediately releases a statement on his own. He then suspends his campaign and asks that friday's debate be postponed saying he's returning to D.C. to help.
these are undisputable facts right?
i know the GOP side of the story. he's "showing leadership", " he's a maverick", etc...
he's a snake IMO. both candidates were told a few days ago that although the debate was to be about foriegn policy/ defense each candidate would be given atleast 5 minutes on the economy and this bail out. this move is 100% spin. just yesterday he didn't know if he would vote for Bush's bailout now he must rush to D.C. to fix things? he doesn't want to debate Barack on the economy in a time as bad as this because of his voting record with Bush and his admitted weakness on the subject!
you republicans diehards will "believe" that he's showing a "take charge" position and putting his country first. those of us in the REAL world will see it for what it is.
Palin wont do interview's or allow press into her FIRST EVER meeting with a foriegn leader and McCain is trying to grandstand and postpone a PRESIDENTIAL debate.
the GOP is trying to avoid discussing the issues and is trying to steal this election with smoke and mirrors.
first it was the outrageous ad's that Barack is responsible for high gas prices. then it was Barack wants to raise taxes on the middle class. to now that he wants to build this huge government and teach your kindergarteners about "the birds and the bees"
then they trot out Sarah Palin like she's there secret weapon. i call her there "fembot". they preach how she's an energy expert and is well schooled on foriegn affairs due to her states proximity to Russia. but you cant ask her about it. all i know about her is that as a mayor of a town of 9,000 she took a 27 million dollar earmark to build a sports complex. raised taxes, and left 9,000 with a 2 million dollar debt. i know she can field dress a moose. i know that she can fire a gun. i know that she likes to fish, and that she has 5 children one with down syndrome. but i dont know what qualifies her to be Vice President let alone President.
every poll including FOX has McCain down. this move today is a desperate attempt to stall and SPIN! "look he cares more about the country than his own campaign" type of crap. he wanted to create a buzz and stall the debate IMO!

What exactly qualifies OBAMA to be president? Sarah Palin probably has more experience than that man will ever have. I found this pretty intersting--
Someone did the math on Obama the Senator. He has only been a Senator for 18 months. But with all the recesses, four day weekends, campaigning and absences, Obama has only spent about 6 weeks of workdays on the Senate floor as one of the most junior Senators.
Most of his votes, about 80% when he was not absent, have been "present" or "abstain".
He also chairs a committee that has never met because the chairman has never called a meeting.
As a trial lawyer he only tried 14 cases in court - and minor ones at that.
As a "community organizer" his major cause was getting the asbestos out of a housing project. After 2 years of trying the asbestos was still there when he left and is still there even now that he is a Senator and presumably has some pull to get things done.
That's it. His entire real world work resume. 6 weeks work in the Senate with nothing to show for it. Two years as a lawyer and only 14 minor trials. And two years as a "community organizer" with nothing accomplished.
So who now has less experience?

All I know is that if I see one more thread that is started one way and then proceeds to rant because their rant was buried in ANOTHER political thread I am going to spit---!

AMEN VINNYRAPTOR.
My thoughts exact. However, this might be the wrong place to get real honest replies. The other side will flip and rant about every other thing. I think the debates should go on.

They both stated they are BOTH stopping their campaigns to go back to Washington to deal with this economic problem. They've agreed to forgo partisan politics and make a joint statement about the issue. First resonable thing I've heard since this election crap started. McCain did ask for a delay in Friday's debate. Apparently Obama has rejected the delay. McCain's camp says he won't show up unless the economic issue can be discussed.

Obama's camp thinks the delay is a political ploy to distract attention to his fall in the polls. The latest poll shows McCain 9 points down. Guess the American public is blaming Bush and the Republicans for the economic downfall.

If John McCain, Sarah Palin, or any other Republican for that matter were to discover a proven cure-all for cancer and develop a sucessful plan for world peace & prosperity for all, would it really make a crap to you?

Ok, it pains me to admit it as a McCain supporter and staunch Republican, but I was a bit annoyed at J Mac asking to postpone the debate and pretend that his involvement in the "bailout" and "economic crisis" was so important that he should put the debate and his campaign on hold.
Nothing going on in Congress should be as important as the Presidential campaign at this point to he or Obama. It is IMO silly to pretend it is...

I may be missing something here, but obama is going about business as usual unless they call him. And mccain is dropping everything and running to "help". Needless to say, I've got my popcorn ready, I only hope mccain actually skips the debate, because it will make for more interesting politics.

Your prejudice is illuminating.

Obama had originally planned campaign as usual but as usual he finally saw the wisdom in McCain's position and moved to it. Obama will be in DC tomorrow.
Obama followed McCain's lead on taxes when the Obus finally admitted raising taxes on ANYONE during an economic slowdown is foolish
Obama followed McCains lead on off shore drilling
Obama followed McCain's lead although 3 years is a long time to take to figure it out) on Fannie and Freddie
And he's following the leader again

Ya.. let's issue a joint statement. That will solve the problems. Not like we're Senators and should actually go to work...

Bleed Red or Be Dead I guess. You do have a vivid imagination. McCain's wisdom by running home to Daddy Bush to evade an inevitable embarrassment at the debate on Friday. If he bails from the debate using the economic excuse, you'll see his poll numbers drop even lower than 9 percent.

It's clear that McCain wants nothing to do with the debate because he is clueless when it comes to the economy but I am still crossing my fingers that he decides to do the debate.
Also, anyone else find it interesting that Palin has been completely shielded from the media? Has she done a single press conference since she was nominated?

You can't seriously think McCain was worried about a foreign policy debate with Obama
