ME and my bacteria bloom.

So this is a very common problem and I still cant seem to fix it. I had a hair algae problem about a month ago. Used a product called marine SAT that is just a bacteria that competes with the algae. I also did a large water change and rinsed my live rock in the old water. got rid of some of the hair. well the next morning the hair was gone and it looked great.. then the next morning it got slowly worse and after about 3 days I had a glowing box. No fish or live rock seen at all. So I put in a 20 gal sump. decent skimmer. and used Alot of filter media in a plastic trash can as a a mechanical filter. I have tried evertything to get rid of it with no luck. I tried covering the entire tank with NO light for 72 hours, tried adding 40lbs more substrate, tried a product called T.L.C. (tender living care) and about 3 weeks later a product called "nutra sea clean tank scrubber" which is also a bacteria. that helped a quite a bit but ive been using it for a week now doesnt seem to be improving. I was using a marine glo bulb which I found to be a contributing factor. I replaced that with a nutri glo plant lamp. and I still use my 10k flourescent on about 9 hours a day. My future plans are to add about 15 misc. algae's (udotea, shaving brush) hoping they will like to drink pea soup.
Any help that works I will dump my paypal account to your's if thats what it takes..

i will take ur money... I am having the same problem...not so much hair algae, but neon green algae on the glass. I believe it's from me leaving the lights on for over 16 hours a day when I was gone for thanksgiving break. Others say that my nitrates aren't at zero and high phosphates. To be honest, I don't know what my phosphates are at. I'll check them soon. If I were you, I'd start checking those levels to make sure they are ok.
