Mechanical filtration. Do you use one?

I was thinking if a mechanical filtration is worth having or not? With all the in tank circulation and scavengers picking up debris. Do I really need it? It's more clutter in the tank and it raises the electric bill. What do you think?

On my 10 gallon I use a Whisper 30. Primarily for current & a little more water volume. It's also handy in case you need to do some water scrubbing. I try to keep it clean so it won't do any biological filtering.
