Mechanical filtration

I'm sitting here thinking how I can make a mechanical filter.
Does anyone see a problem with a whole house filter like you would buy at a home improvement store?
Would a 5 micron filter be fine enough?
Would a good aquarium pump be able to push water through it? (I think household water pressure is 30 PSI)
What do ya think?

5 micron is very fine.. .would clog in a few hrs...
i have a 100 micon filer pad...does job preety good.. takes a few days to get good cleaning going.. remember.. if its to fine it will cause you more work to large and its no good...
the 100 i use gets better in days of usage .. sometimes better to use bigger and let begest stuff get the smaller stuff
