Just built a sump. Could someone tell me what kind of media I should use in it? Also what size of pump should I use? Thanks

You can put any combination of media in the sump, depends on what you are looking to accomplish...from time to time i put carbon into my sump, helps clear the water and take out some phosphates but becareful with carbon cause it can also take out alot of the tanks essential elements in the process....
As for the pump depends on the tank size and flow rate your going for...I have 65g tank with a quiteone 3000 pump good for about 780gph....does the job and than some!

Thanks! Do you have any recommendations on bio balls I've heard both good and bad about them. Are ceramic rings any good?

I'm a little confused about "media". You don't mean a substrate, do you? If so, I would avoid Miracle Mud; I think it's been behind my ongoing algae battle, check out my phosphate leaking thread if you want.
Otherwise, I'm not a big media fan. I have bioballs in a baffle directly below my overflow pour just to break the flow up so it doesn't bowl my macro's over, but they aren't there for biological purposes; the emperor 400 and the live rock do that.
Any problems in the tank? Algae issues?
