do you guys medicate your QT. if so how much? and how long is the minimum to hold new fish. What about live rock and live sand, isn't it possible for live sand to hold parasites, how do you quarantine sand.
I'm just anal I guess
Do some research over on the Disease board. Personally I use 2 tanks - 1 QT and another for hospital. Ick only lives about 30 days so with no fish to host for 30 days, it dies. As for treating - what method and for what? best to just QT till something is seen then treat IMO. I think Terry said that he takes his QT into hypo during the process which is a good idea to prevent ick if it is present before it can break out.
You should QT any new fish for 4 weeks at least IMO. Some say 3 but best to be safe.
BTW Welcome to the board
Defin. doin the right thing being here. Probabally the best thing i've bought is 'The Conscientious Marine Aquarist'. I got it from this link for 29.95 - think the norm is 35.00
<a href="http://www.northcoastmarines.com/" target="_blank">http://www.northcoastmarines.com/</a>
got the book and a refractometer. It was 80.00 where the norm is around 120.00 elsewhere.
