Melafix?

So I used Melafix about 10 days ago during a tank switch over, and to assist with a few "bumps and bruises" on my Sailfin T. (stuff worked well!)
The question is: how do I get it OUT of the tank. There are thousands of micro-fine particles floating around. Asked the LFS (who used Melafix instead of copper) they have same problem and confirmed that the particles are indeed Melafix (are they correct?)
My skimmer has been off-line since when I put it on it bubbles like crazy and I am getting no waste cleaning action from it, just overflowing waste tank (every 30 minutes!).
I have heard carbon for a day or two and a partial WChange? Then run the skimmer?

heavy carbon, poly filters, water change, skimmer.
did you do this in a reef?

I've used it before when fish get an injury. When I turn my skimmer back on it goes crazy and I dump it a lot and it takes out the melafix.
