Our local reefer's society meet was today and we had Tullio Dell Aquila or *just Tullio* as a speaker.
For you who do not know who he is, here is his introduction
Tullio Dell Aquila is head of new product development and founding partner of Aquatic Research and Development located in Utica, New York. ARAD is a lighting manufacturer and developer specializing in advanced high power solid state lighting systems. Tullio has spent over a decade focusing on the importance of proper lighting techniques for aquarium and aquaculture use. His dedication and continued work with high power full spectrum LED systems has made him the latest pioneer in the aquarium and aquaculture trade.
Tullio has been an avid reef aquarium hobbyist for over fifteen years. With an extensive technical background, he initially started out researching, testing, and developing products for various companies in our industry. During this time he helped design, and develop numerous aquarium lighting products now available to hobbyist today. After years of testing and helping to develop products for other companies he partnered up with Joe Cattadoris and Andy Cleary both highly accredited in the manufacturing industries to form Aquatic Research and Development.
Today Tullio spends most of his time developing and testing new lighting formats for various industries as well as designing LED, metal halide and fluorescent based lighting systems for top companies in our hobby. Among his numerous accomplishments is the 2001 Northeast Council of Aquarium Societies' award for both best article on his super bacteria theory, and best column "Today's Reef Aquarium" in the publication "Aquatica"
In a month or so there will be some really interesting LED lighting fixtures coming to the market that are more reasonably priced than what the current LED systems are.
I didn't get to hear the whole presentation as my girls were getting noisy, but the parts that I did hear were very interesting. If you ever have a chance to meet him and participate at his lectures, please go. You will NOT regret it.
Tullio if you read this, it was great meeting you. I'm the one with the twins in the back row
