I just recently prchased a mh175watt 12k and it was too blue so I traded it in for a 10k. It is still too blue.I am looking for a crisp white sunlight type bulb. What kelvin would that be? the industrial halide fixture I bought came with a bulb but it was like a yellow/white light. I cannot seem to find that exact sunlight look. Is 55k or 65k what I am looking for because they are 1/2 as cheap. Please help so i can put this damn bulb on ---- or something if there is a better kelvin . Its just for a fish only tank. The sunlight effect I am surching for is just for looks.

I'm in the same situation as you. From what I have read on here and about every lighting site on the web, 10000K is about as "pure" white as your gonna find. I plan on getting two for my 175 watt retro. You can supplement with NO or VHO if its not quite white enough. I'm probably going to do that as well, I just have to wait and see what the tank looks like with the 10000K's installed. Then I'll make my decision. Just my 2 cents.

Which 10K brand of bulb are you using?
The Hamilton/Usho shouldn't be all that blue. If so then the 6,500K bulb would be your nest bet.

I think that the 10000K bulbs are the "whitest". If you drop to a 5500K or 6700K, I think you'll get a yellowish look. If that is what you are looking for, go for it! I have 10000K VHO's, Actinic VHO's and a 6700K PC. I found that, I love the look of this setup. The 6700K helps to decrease some of the blue look!
