Well, I thought I was 100% sure about my lighting system--but, guess again! My tank is a 150 gallon tall-48" long by 24" wide by 30" deep. I was going to get the Hamilton 250-watt metal halide retrofit kit with 2 96-watt CF's to be mounted inside a wood canopy. I'm planning on keeping soft corals at first, and then maybe stony corals and a clam later on when I gain more experience. After doing a little bit more research, I think I'll probably need 400 watt metal halides since it is a deep tank. Well, I'm very concerned about safety with heat issues inside a wood canopy with this type of wattage. Also, my tank has a center brace, and NO WAY am I going to go screwing around trying to cut it.
Anyway, I'm thinking now that two pendants might be the way to go for me. There's a great LFS near me that deals exclusively with marine tanks, and they've got the same setup over their stony coral tank. Does anyone know a good brand of pendants to use? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
