metal halide question

Okay ..here's something I was wondering about.
Was at Home Depot other day getting 3-prong timers for lighting, and saw something interesting.
In the lighting department, bulbs and ballasts, I noticed they carry 175 watt metal halide bulbs for about $25.00 bucks ~ bulb only. The guy didn't know much about them, but the box said they require a type 56 ballast or connection ???
First off - are these suitable for our hobby ? I use PC and they are doing great, but was very curious about the halides.
Spectrum ? Intensity ?
Second - if not suitable for salt-tanks, where would one use these bulbs ?
Just wondering

These are what I have in my shop also. There are eight fixtures, pendant type, about 800watts each. I also wondered if these would work. STEVE

I was thinking the same thing SAMMY. Discounted bulbs from work,But There is no info about the K-value,or color. One 800 watt bulb would probably be too much any way. Not to mention the ballast is about the size of a 10gal tank. STEVE

They are the same thing. I am getting a VHO set up for my 29 gal with 3 75 wat bulds. A day light, 50/50, and a 14,000K!!!! for $40 dollars through one of my farthers light catulges(spelling) he's an electrition. So I guess I lucked out on lighting.
