metal halide

I have had my tank up & running for 4-5 months, evrything has gone perect so far, (KNOCK, KNOCK, KNOCK) I am ready to up grade my lighting...It seems that metal halide is the way to go, My question is, Can I use and outside "mercury light" that is metal halide, retro fit the application to my tank. At Lowes I can get a MH light for $65 with a 250 watt bulb, this is a heck of a lot checper that 300-400$, has anybody done this? any suggestions

No, the spectrum will be wrong...If you look around you can find a nice setup for a lot less then 300.00...
