I have a 48" metal halide and compact flouresent combo 542 watts. I just bought a used 75 gallon with a VHO set up in the hood. I believe it is around 460 watts. I was going to switch over to the VHOs since they are nicely fitted in the matching hood of the tank. The only problem is that it did not come with a ballast. I've been pricing the ice cap ballast (which is what it is wired for) and they are a bit pricey. Does anyone have any opinions on which would be better to use, the MH or the VHOs. I have fish, some softies (mushrooms, colt coral, and zoos) and a bubble tip anemone. Which would you guys use?
