The wavelength is what matters. Most bulbs not made for aquarium use are the wrong wavelength. What wavelength(s) you use is a matter of what animals you are keeping and your personal preference.
Aquarium bulb mfrs (Hamilton, Ushio, etc) build their bulbs to tighter specifications, because the wavelenth is so critical. Non aquarium mfrs (Osram, Westinghouse, GE, etc) don't worry so much about it, because all they care about is that the bulb lights, not what wavelength they are, or how far from the designed wavelength they drift, so they are cheaper.
