Hey Gang,
My friend is selling me his retro fit with reflector Metal Halide with two brand new 5500K german bulbs for $70. Its a great deal. I am setting up a fish only (with some inverts) tank. It two MH bulbs enough light? i like the way my PC look at home... it bright and it is clear. Along with the two MH bulbs, i also have 1 coralife actinic blue and 1 20,000k flourscent buld (48"). I have learn that MH will be very hot. So i will install one or two fan in my canopy to reduce the heat.
In conclusion, 2 5500K MH and two 48" NO flourscent (1 actinic blue and 1 20,000k) with 2 fans.
Your response will be greatly appreciated.......with this light setup, i can add some corals in the future......
take care....

Sounds like you have the makings of a real nice setup. How many gallons is the tank? With this lighting you should be able to keep just about anything you want. Just put the light lovers up higher on your rocks, and others accordingly. STEVE

Hey Gang,
Today i picked up the Metal Halide today. Its a single (not double as I thought it was) 150W with 55,000K. Its only one bulb, but its bright as hell. So i will have this combo.
1. one MH 150W 55,000K
2. Two flourscent tubes
One blue actinic
One 20,000K
This that a good combo for a fish only tank (with possible invert) or should look for another MH with similar brightness.
What do u think?

My tank is 110, but its a 30" tall. I got a MH last night and installed this morning. The water still very cloudy (because i just added the sand). Even with one MH 175 GE Multi-vapor 55,000k. It very bright. I am still waiting for my end caps which i ordered last night from petswhse.com. I also bidded on a MH ballast last night on ----. Hopefully verything works out then i would have the followings setup:
1. 2 48" T12 coralife actinic blue 03
2. 2 175W with 55,000k Metal Halide.
With this setup, i should get about 430 Watts. It should able to support anything i put it.....
thank you Mr. Salty
