MH Light Question

Alright I know this is a SW forum but I have a question about MH lights. I have an older 250watt MH light with a holder which is metal and has a reflector. I recently moved my deck pond goldfish into the livingroom into a 110 gallon tank. There were a lot of floating plants, lilies, and submersed plants that I would like to keep alive, I think it is escential for the fish to thrive. I am just worried about running this hot light in my livingroom. I want to build an eclosed canopy to hold the MH light but I don't want to start a fire. I was thinking of going with 6 - T8's instead. I really would like to use the MH because I think the plants will thrive. What do you guys think?

What is the kelvin rating of the MH? It's the same with any plants, the lower the kelvin rating (higher in the red spectrum) the better for plants. If you're looking at flourecents then mix of grow light bulbs and day light bulbs would probably give you the best chance for your plants to thrive.

I pretty sure it is a 5K bulb, I just put it on the tank and I didn't like the look - I think I am going to go with 6 - T8's. I am going to save the MH for the frag tank I keep talking about. Thanks Corey.
