Is that going to cause a problem down the road? My friends tank goes up 2 degrees when his lights are on. And he has not had any issues but I was just wondering if anyone else had or heard of problems with heat???

yeah that's a problem in kansas summers. if you can keep it even now in the winter it'll be alright until april or so. you'll need to wire up some 4-6" fans in your canopy to come on with your lights in the morning and go off with them at night. it get's really bad if you live west of topeka or manhattan, i keep my aquariums in the basement or the a/c up high.
get an electronic thermostat to turn off the ac at night otherwise your heater will work overtime. it'll take awhile to figure out, but the basement option is the best if you have one.

btw, if you're in eastern ks, gotofishheadsdotorg for more advice. it's a local non-profit saltwater site.
i'm in lawrence, overland park and topeka regularly if you'd like for me to take a look at your setup. i work retail, so it'd depend on my schedule. i'm in every city at least once a week though.

it depend on what the temp of your tank is.. i mean if it's liek 85 deg then .. yeah it is.. but if it's like 79 turning to 81 then naw.. as long as the change is not to intense and sudden as to shock the inhabitants

My tank fluctuates 1-2 degress every day and sometimes more in the summer. No problems! Last summer my heater malfunctioned and my tank was over 100 degrees and everything lived.

No it is like 74.5 going to 75.9 or so. It is in my basement and it never EVER gets over 71 degrees down here.
Everything seems happy. My fish are out of my tank right now due to one getting a few spots of ich and they had to go to the hospital :)
I am in the middle of doing a new sump so I am running my old bio wheels and I had to lift my mh light up a bit so as it did not get so much water on it from the bubbles popping on the surface. The bio wheels suck for bubbles......
Here are a couple pics of my tank......

I'd add a couple heaters and raise the temp to 80degs or so... at that you should not get a fluctuation in the temp. Maintaining a constant temp is "VERY" important IMO.

IMO 80degs is about perfect... again, maintaining a constant temperature with no fluctuation or minimal fluctuations is the most important.

I maintain 78-80 in the winter and 80-82 in the summer. As long as you keep it around 80 degrees and don't have more than a 2 degree fluctuation in a 24 hour period, you are golden. Anything more than a 2 degree change in less than 24 hours can cause stress... and eventually disease if it happens every day.
