MH lights

if i were to go buy metal halide lights for my tank from home depot would they be the same as from the pet store? or is there anything i should look for?

The stuff you'd buy at Home Depot really isn't the same. Usually the fixtures are designed to spread the light over a large area; not really what you want for an aquarium. The bulbs are usually lower kelvin too (like 6500K) which really doesn't look that nice either.
You can use the "guts" but are better off buying new bulbs and a better reflector.

I knowthe retro parts that I bought from devildog are from a industrial fixture, but as stated above the reflector and bulbs are from this industry
