Golfish, HUH???? Just when i thought i had things settled, you drag me back in :) What are the different HQI models??? I thought it was a standard thing. Now i do not know if the ones i was researching are any good. I was under the impression that the HQI ( do not know what the difference is between DE & IC MH) bulbs was the way to go? Can you please help me? or for that matter anyone help me :) Thanxs

Thanxs Golfish, If you don't mind why are you not a fan of ice-caps? i thought they are the gold standard in ballast. I am concerned about the heat generated. Do ballast have a heat production rating?? Once again thanxs

by the way great tank !!!!

An electronic ballast that gets as hot or hotter than a core and coil ballast (PFO).
I was under the impression that all electronic ballasts would run cooler than core and coil. What kind of E-ballast is it ?
Thanks

Thanxs Golfish, Can you suggest any ballast for a 175 watt bulb. What set-up would you use to light a 75 gallon tank??? I would like to keep clams and everything else under the sun too :)
Thanxs

I agree with golfish on the IceCap MH ballast, but their VHO ballasts have no problems. They are workhorses. I have a 430 that has been in use every day for over 5 years. Never a problem. I had 2 250 watt Blueline E-ballasts from Champion that were junk. They really screwed things up for me for a while. They made my Aquacontroller go nuts...turning things on and off at random. I sold them and bought PFO's. Great ballasts.
