MH over FL lighting setup - heat problems??

For those with metal halide fixtures that are mounted above your fluorescent tubes within your tall custom hoods:
1. Do the MH heat the FL tubes, maybe excessively?
2. Could this become a problem?
3. Do FL have a safe operating range (temp)?
I've seen pics of arrangements with different clearances, and no reports of problems.
Many thanks,
AJ

I have wondered about this too.
I think fl's can take the heat because I have seen fixtures sold with the tubes within inches of the halide. Hamilton lighting comes to mind. Of course, they have fans, but that was enough for me to stop worrying.

many of my friends who are quite serious run MH next to VHO's all the time. this is their perfered meathod for lighting. the next reef that i set up i will have both MH and VHO systems. since i seem to be into 6 foot tanks i will run 3 400 watt vhos and 2 or 4 vho tubes
