in sanjay testing 150de vs 175se (bulbs alone, same brand, no sheilding or reflectors on the recommended ballast for each bulb) performed close enough to call it a wash. the 175 output was slightly higher in direct porportion to the extra 25w. the smaller size should allow the de to be better reflected but the required glass sheild also reduces PAR.
I wouldn't even worry about DE or SE for performance, if you want the best performance you'd be much better served focusing on reflectors than SE or DE (lumanarc, lumanmax ect other high performance reflectors for both style of bulb) and then ballast. with DE/SE you should just go with which ever one fits over your tank/space better. I've had em both now and was happy with both.
another thing to consider is 175w SE bulbs probably have the LEAST amount of choices available (70w excluded). want pheonix 14k, you cant if you use 175SE. both 150DE and 175DE have limited choices compared to 250w bulbs. No Radium 20k for example in 150 or 175 watt

But IMO, in short, I think I'd go back to my moguls. I kinda wonder if the UV protection glass blocks out to much blue, and I did notice way more dark spots in my tank since getting the DE's...
