MH wiring

In the next couple of days I am going to wire up my new dual 175W MH's. Since everyone on here seems to be fairly honest and knowledgeable I have a question about the wiring. The sockests have two wires (white and black). From my knowledge white will be hot. Well my problem arises when I looked at the wire to the ballast, it has (white, black, and green). Does this mean that:
black (socket)----black (ballast)
white (socket)---white (ballast)
Now the green??????? Where does it go...is it a ground?
Any other pointers would be greatly appreciated

there should be a wire diagram. green is ground usually. with my ballast. i hooked them up in series.

I do not have a wire diagram. The sockets do not have the green wire, so how does everyone ground their MH's?

FYI...The black is hot, the white is neutral, and the green is ground. Hook up as follows:
Black (ballast >> Black on socket
White (ballast>> White on socket
Ballast case (if no green wire)>>socket mounting bracket and/or reflector

yea the green in my ballast is connected to a screw which is screwed into the housing.
