What are the differences in Metal Halide lamps I'm looking at 250w, but they give a choice in 10k, 14k or 20k bulbs what are the differences and what are they used in as far as fish, reef etc.

mh lighting is the most intense lighting u can buy ,generally used in reef applications.
10000 k is more white and more intense ,with the best sps growth rate
14000k a little more of a blue light
20000k very blue ,u get the best colors out of these lights

I don't really want the tank to look blue, I take a lot of pictures so I quess the 14k would be the better choice.

my 10000k are too white/yellow to them i ordered the 14000k lamps but they sent the 10000k any way called them but that aquatraitors sucks for customer service...tobin

When it comes to bulbs, you get what you pay for...I'd rather pay a little more $$ and get a quality product.
I have a couple XM 250W 10k DE on my set up, they are a very crisp white. Also have a Hamilton 14, which is a very nice blue and inbetween the two 10k's it balances very well.

problem there is 1st off i do agree with you though in my situation something was better than nothing i'm on social security till hopefully august then maybe i could get back to work family of 5 on 800 a month bites harder than you might think...tobin
